Wild Horse Mountain is the smallest of the 13 peaks that make up the Glass House Mountains and the only one that is on the eastern side of the Bruce Highway. The walk to the summit is via a paved road used by National Parks vehicles, but isn’t available for public vehicles. While the path is quite steep in places it is possible for fit parents to push prams to the summit. The walk itself isn’t particularly attractive, with dry scrubby bush lining the path, but it is absolutely worth the effort for the views awaiting you at the summit. They are spectacular!

For me, the best part of this bushwalk was the time spent at the summit making use of the information on display at the fire tower lookout. The viewing platform has been constructed as a functional compass with all 360 degrees notched into the handrails. A map built into the middle of the platform with a measuring wire at the very centre allows for accurate readings, especially in times of bushfires. Pictures built into the eaves provide information regarding the views before you – from what mountains you’re looking at to what type of forest has been strategically planted and when. And the views are awe inspiring!

Take some snacks and enjoy a picnic at the top, or even incorporate this walk with summiting another of the Glass House Mountains on the same day. Good times!
