Brisbane City Council restricts access to the summit of Mt Gravatt overnight. A gate along Mount Gravatt Lookout Dr, near the intersection with Shire Rd, prevents vehicle access to the summit before dawn. On street parking is available before the gate. Pedestrians and cyclists can still access the road and walking tracks in the pre dawn hours.

Due to the formation of the top of Mt Gravatt, there isn’t an ideal place to view sunrise from the summit. Sunrise is best viewed from the platform at Federation Lookout. The walking track to Federation Lookout is along a loose gravel track that is very steep just prior to the platform. The views are definitely worth the effort.

Federation Lookout track takes you past water pipes that have been beautified by enviro artist, Frida Forsberg. It is always heartening to witness what was previously an eyesore transformed into a feature.

My day is always better when it starts with embracing sunrise.
