Starting from the Binna Burra Trailhead, Coomera circuit can be reached via the Looptrack (orange) or the Tullawallal circuit (red). The circuit is best traversed anti-clockwise, but not essential.
The first 5km take you through lush rainforest on an easy to follow track. Man made noises are soon left behind as you are enveloped by the forest.
Trees of all shapes and sizes are passed along the leaf strewn path. Warty trees were particularly intriguing.
About 5km into the walk you reach the Coomera Falls lookout platform. Stunning views of Coomera Gorge, the river and the falls can be found here. Signs forbidding swimming and abseiling here are on display. For the next 5km the track criss-crosses multiple creeks. It isn’t always clear exactly which way to go, however the path on the opposite side of the creek can usually be spotted. After rain expect to get wet. There are many spots in this section that would make an ideal place to have a picnic.
Numerous naturally formed water holes are passed, and a few keen swimmers were spotted taking a dip. Short deviations (100m) to the main track takes you to the upper and lower Bahnamboola Falls. Here it is possible to swim beneath the falls. Be warned – it can be VERY slippery!
The final 8km is very straightforward, following the Boarder Track back to Binna Burra Trailhead. Mobile reception is a bit spotty along the track. No snakes were seen and no tics or leaches feasted on me – although I’m sure all 3 were nearby. Coomera Circuit is a highly rewarding bushwalk, up there with Warrie Circuit in Springbrook National Park.
